The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Voice Displeasure Regarding Size Changes
Vinted users have been reacting angrily following a change that caused items being listed as the wrong size.
This online marketplace has altered its measurement guidelines for women's and children's garments but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Digital Channels Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are posting online claiming that product pages now present a different size category versus the original listing because of the remapping.
The company said the new system was more in line with other platforms.
The platform has recommended to review their products and update the measurements by hand if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.
Measurement Approach Updates
Before the change, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes an alphabetical indicator and numerical range for example S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
User Experiences
Frankie Bridger, who produces content about larger sizing, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
A different member, from Glasgow, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they will likely be quite upset," she stated.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, from Derby, explained she became annoyed because the modification necessitated personal updates the measurements for "each individual item".
"This situation is especially annoying, as I'm chronically ill and selling on Vinted has been paramount after experiencing income reduction," she said.
Platform Context
The service features exceeding 100 million users, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: earlier, Vinted reversed a change concerning shipment methods following member complaints.
